Research Associate (Bioanalytical Chemistry) – Drug Development

Amicus Therapeutics is a biopharmaceutical company developing novel, oral therapeutics known as pharmacological chaperones for the treatment of a range of human genetic diseases. Pharmacological chaperone technology involves the use of small molecules to restore or improve biological activity in cells by selectively binding to misfolded proteins caused by genetic mutations. Responsibilities


* Hands-on responsibility for all aspects of bioanalytical work to support the Company's development portfolio of small molecule therapeutics and biomarkers.
* Responsibility for various stages of LC-MS/MS assay development and application in the quantitation of drug and metabolite concentrations in body fluids and tissue samples that will support the internal discovery operation.
* Activities to include method development and validation for active drug and PD markers.
* Compile data and write protocols and reports. Communicate analytical data across scientific departments.
* Proficient in the use of automated sample preparation techniques. Ability to use standard word processing and spreadsheet applications in the finalization and reporting of final results.
* Calibrate and maintain MS instrumentation. Evaluate new and emerging analytical technology in support of development projects.
* Establish and implement laboratory systems that maximize efficiency and regulatory compliance in a growing analytical laboratory.
* Interact closely with Regulatory Affairs providing summary data and reports required for regulatory submissions.

Requirements

Education & Requirements
Our environment requires that the candidate be both a hands-on innovative scientist and an effective project manager. The candidate should have a B.S or MS in analytical chemistry or a related field with 6-8 years of relevant experience in quantitative bioanalytical techniques involving the extraction and analysis of small molecules and biomarkers from biological samples including tissue samples. Candidate should have extensive hands-on experience using the Sciex LC/MS platforms and have a thorough understanding of GLPs. Proficiency with personal computer applications for word processing, spreadsheets and graphics, as well as good oral and written communication skills are desirable. Technical writing ability and familiarity with regulatory submissions (IND, NDA, CTD format) is preferred.

MS degree in Electrochemistry / Chemical engineering / Chemistry or Materials Science is required. The candidate should have at least 8 years of industrial experience in the aluminum electrolytic capacitor industry. A BS degree with 10 years industrial experience will be considered. The candidate should possess a working knowledge of wet aluminum capacitors including:
• Anodes
• Cathodes
• Electrolyte chemistry
• Can and stopper assembly
• Analysis of corresponding electrical characteristics and related physical phenomenon and failure mechanisms a definite plus.
Experience in new product testing and development is required.
Knowledge of capacitors and varistors performance required. Job is to lead characterization efforts and development of new test methodologies. Additional duties involve conducting theoretical and experimental investigations in a research setting.

Chemical Engineer

The successful candidate will carry out modeling research on projects related to automotive/environmental catalysis. Responsibilities include kinetic and reactor modeling of heterogeneous catalytic systems, kinetic experimentation, optimization, data analysis and reporting, and computer programming. In addition to performing research on assigned projects the candidate is expected to interact effectively with other scientists, application engineers, and business people within the corporation. Occasional customer interactions such as presentations will also be required.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in chemical engineering or chemistry with 2-5 years industrial or post-doctoral experience in kinetic and/or reactor modeling of heterogeneous catalytic systems. Programming abilities and hands on experience with catalytic reactors is desired. Candidate must have good interpersonal and communication skills and work well in the team environment. Candidate must display initiative and have a strong drive for results, while always showing respect for safety and quality.

The successful candidate will have proven skills in molecular biology, cell biology and protein biochemistry. Expertise in the analysis of basement membrane components would be a definite advantage.

Requirements

The research will take place in the Children’s Memorial Research Center laboratories in Lincoln Park, which provide an outstanding research environment. Successful applicants will be eligible for post-doctoral appointments in the Department of Pediatrics, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. The post doctoral fellows will investigate the biology of perlecan and endorepellin in vertebrate (zebrafish) vascular development and tumor angiogenesis. The candidates will join a multidisciplinary team of researchers involved in investigating the molecular mechanisms through which perlecan and its angiostatic, C-terminal fragment endorepllin affect the development of new blood vessels both in vitro and in vivo.

Requirements
# Ph.D or an M.D./Ph.D. in biochemistry or cell biology.
# A molecular background is highly desirable.
# Experience with zebra fish and image analysis is welcome, but not necessary.
