JOB SUMMARY:

A research scientist working with considerable independence operating fully automated systems used by the Screening Resources group for liquid chemical sample management. The candidate will run, maintain, program, and trouble shoot complicated automation systems within the group in order to meet critical deadlines. The candidate will continuously evaluate current sample handling practices and suggest ways to increase efficiency and maximize the care afforded to the samples to prevent degradation. Individual will have responsibilities that include the generation of sample plates and tubes for primary and confirmation assays for all high throughput screens and custom plates for scientists throughout Discovery. Individual. This individual will collaborate with Discovery IT/IS groups in the maintenance of databases related to the liquid sample inventory, request and fulfillment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Independently maintain and operate automated chemical compound sample preparation and management instrument systems.

Serve as the primary contact for customers submitting requests for chemical compound samples through direct interface or via electronic request and inventory systems.

Serve as the primary individual responsible for identifying issues with the functionality of the automated systems and providing solutions to resolve those issues using Wyeth and 3rd party resources.

Evaluate and propose new technologies to increase efficiency, quality and deliverable from the liquid chemical compound management operations.

Read and understand the scientific literature in order to bring new and improved procedures to the laboratory.

BASIC QUALIFICATION:

Individual has a BS or MS degree in engineering, chemistry, biology or related field.

Individual has a minimum of three to five years of relevant industry experience.

Individual has a thorough knowledge of commercial liquid handling and sample storage systems and experience programming and troubleshooting such equipment in a drug discovery environment of biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies.

Aerotek Environmental is currently looking for a junior level Environmental Scientist/Chemist/Toxicologist to work with an Environmental Consulting firm in Springfield, VA. Will be working on EPA contracts related to Human Health Risk Assessment/Toxicology. Position will involve the study and analysis of EPA data; this will involve the impact of certain chemicals on humans and analysis of the fate and transport of chemicals and their routes of exposure.

Must have a BS in Environmental Science, Biology, Toxicology, Public Health or a related degree. Good communication skills and math skills are also required.

Classification:
Full-Time

Based on experience.

Essential duties include reagent preparation and routine testing of client samples as directed by the supervisor. This position demands an individual who possesses excellent interpersonal skills which are critical for maintaining communication across biological functional groups.

Requirements
Qualifications include education at the level of a BS in Biology or a related discipline and a minimum of 2 years biological laboratory experience or the equivalent. Knowledge of cGMPs or regulatory affairs pertaining to the pharmaceutical and biological industries is a plus.
