Position – Engineer, Environmental Programs
Salary – $60-80K
Relocation - Comprehensive
Location - Iowa
To provide leadership and direction for the development of plant-wide strategies, procedures, policies and training related to the prevention, identification and control of environmental and chemical exposures at the Location Plant
Job focus in these areas will be primarily on (1) Supervise, support and develop training related to identification, evaluation and control of environmental hazards/risks (2) develop and maintain COMPANY Environmental Management System databases and annual performance reporting (3) minimize/eliminate risks and hazards related to exposures, (4) maintaining compliance with local, state and federal regulatory requirements and best management practices, and (5) industrial hygiene and environmental monitoring and auditing
HSE programs managed and supported by this position are HS 8 (Hazard Communication), HS 9 (Chemical/Pnysical Agent Exposure which includes chemical/physical exposure monitoring, lead, ionized radiation, and pesticides), HS 18 (Laboratory Chemical Hazards) , HS 19 (Hazardous Materials Storage & Handling), ENV 1 (Wastewater Treatment & Discharges), ENV 2 (Atmospheric Emissions which includes Title V), ENV 3 (Spill Prevention & Response), ENV 4 (Emergency Planning & Community Right-to-Know which includes Form R, Tier II, and Emergency Planning/ Spill Reporting), ENV 5 (Hazardous Waste Management), ENV 7 (Stormwater Management), ENV 9 (Solid Waste Management), ENV 10 (Asbestos), ENV 12 (Water Supply)
Provide support in the communication of Environmental policies and standards to: assure effectiveness of environmental programs; define minimum standards of program quality; promote consistency among departments; and facilitate compliance with regulations and accepted standards of practice
Develop/deliver systems for environmental training to employees
Remain up-to-date on current and proposed environmental and chemical safety related standards, and social concerns which may affect the Company or its employees; provide user-friendly and timely interpretations to key line and staff managers
Assists outside technical safety services such as industrial hygiene monitoring and environmental auditing
Evaluate contractor performance to assure a high standard of quality
Anticipate and identify current and potential chemical and environmental hazards and practices within Company that could effect employee safety and health, the public, or the Company
Assess the risks associated with hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; specify and evaluate options to reduce hazards as well as administer the facility's chemical inventory tracking system
Manage the process and database for tracking all MSDS's throughout the plant
Serve as technical advisor and oversee performance against the facility's annual compliance calendar by participating in the planning, development, and implementation of internal auditing and training systems related to applicable environmental and chemical hazard program elements
These include Hazard Communication, Chemical/Physical exposure monitoring, hazardous materials management and EPCRA reporting
Provide support to ensure that all environmental permits and reports are submitted to the appropriate governmental agency on a timely basis
Coordinates plant wide Hazard Communication/Right-to-Know program, taking necessary action to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements
Assists the Sr. Engineer and HSE Manager with the COMPANY Environmental Management System, capturing key performance indicators (KPI's), and other projects and administrative responsibilities, as requested, to improve the quality of programs and services, enhance teamwork among staff and colleagues, and assure a productive and efficient department
Coordinates and provides support for the Environmental Loss Analysis Tracking System
Provides support to address deviations/ violations as identified during self-assessments and regulatory visits
Emphasis on Air (Title V) 80% and other Environmental Programs (Spill, Waste Water, Potable Water, Hazardous Waste) 20% the "first year" provides a transition to assure continuity of Environmental Programs at this facility communicates and provides program direction for facility and corporate management provides backup coverage for contact for local, state and federal regulators, and provides support activities to certify continued environmental compliance with permits and regulations to plant management
Job Requirements: 4 (four) year college degree required
A college degree with an Environmental, Industrial Hygiene or science major preferably related to safety, health or environmental science
Science background to include coursework in basic chemistry, organic, quantitative analysis, biology, microbiology, and physical sciences or equivalents
5 years of safety, health or environmental experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment minimum
A demonstrated solid understanding and practical experience in a broad range of EPA regulations, methods, and programs
Knowledge and practical experience in the design of training programs using performance based instructional design methods
